As part of the build-up to the 2027 elections, a former member of the House of Representatives, Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid, has formally abandoned his Senatorial ambition to contest for the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adekoya, popularly known as “Attacker,” announced the decision on Friday, saying it followed sustained pressure and consultations with party leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, women associations and other stakeholders across the constituency.In a statement signed by the politician and issued by his media directorate, the former lawmaker said he decided to return to the House of Representatives in response to what he described as the “overwhelming call of the people” who urged him to continue his representation at the green chamber.
The politician, who represented the constituency between 2015 and 2023, said the House of Representatives offered him a more direct platform to deliver development and address the needs of his people.
I have listened to my people. I have heard their call. I chose to drop the senatorial ambition because the House of Representatives is where I can serve you directly and deliver the most immediate results for Ijebu North, Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside,” he stated.
He added that his return bid was aimed at consolidating on projects and programmes initiated during his previous tenure in the National Assembly.
During his eight years in office, Adekoya was credited with sponsoring bills and facilitating several infrastructure and empowerment projects across the constituency, including roads, schools, bridges and youth support programmes.
Some of the projects listed in the statement include the Vintage Orimolusi Palace in Ijebu-Igbo, Ago-Iwoye City Stadium, Imusin-Ajina Shopping Centre, the International Infertility and Maternity Hospital annex in Ago-Iwoye, and the Senator Prince Buruji Kashamu Skill Acquisition Centre in Ijebu-Igbo.
Others are the Oni Ultra Modern Jetty in Ogun Waterside, Oke-Agbo Multipurpose Centre and the Demiji Farmers Camp in Ibiade, among others.
Supporters of the former lawmaker described his decision as a major boost for the constituency, citing what they called his record of “projects over promises” during his previous stay in office.
The official pick-up of the nomination form, according to the statement, signals the commencement of a grassroots-driven campaign anchored on experience, accountability and visible performance ahead of the 2027 polls.
